: Leo Cunanan, Jr. was born in San Pablo City, Philippines in 1963 and moved with his family to Vancouver, Canada when he was nine years old. He has a background as a musician, graphic artist and publisher of a community directory. From graphic arts, he developed a strong interest in fine arts upon meeting SYM Mendoza, one of the foremost impressionist artists in the Philippines, who gave him private art lessons in 2001. Leo works in charcoal, pastel and water color. He also enjoys doing digital art.

He loves to share his vast knowledge on all nuances of art, and finds great joy in mentoring aspiring artists. SYM’s devotion and passion to art is evidenced in his prolific masterworks. The only Filipino artist who switched, even at the height of his successful career, from traditional to abstract art. Introducing a new concept he calls “neo-classical cubism”. SYM continues his high level of commitment to art, reflected in his works.
